The Republican Committee of the Trade Union of Science and Education Workers was established on June 9, 1920 under the name of the Trade Union of Cultural and Educational Workers of Azerbaijan. Until that time, several teachers' unions operated in Azerbaijan. In subsequent years, this organization continued its activities under various names and since 1990 has been called the Free Trade Union of Education Workers of Azerbaijan (ATIAHI). Since July 2025, the name of the union has been changed to the Republican Committee of the Trade Union of Science and Education Workers.
The Trade Union of Science and Education Workers, as a member organization of the Azerbaijan Confederation of Trade Unions, is a nationwide union established by workplace, profession, territory, and field to protect the labor, social, and economic rights and legitimate interests of education workers and students.
